• A police officer has died from events stemming from yesterday s riots, CNN reports. This brings the death toll to five - one woman was shot dead during the riots and three others died after suffering medical emergencies .

A team from the Francis Crick Institute, UCL and Cambridge University has been awarded $7.7million to identify the genetic and biological factors that cause Parkinson’s disease.
The team, co-led by Sonia Gandhi, Group Leader of the Crick’s Neurodegeneration Biology laboratory, has received the grant from ASAP (Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s). This global research initiative funds teams that are working on understanding the basic mechanisms that contribute to the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease.
By using advanced imaging methods to look for single molecules, or oligomers, in the brain as indicators of early onset of the disease, the researchers aim to build a map of the cells first affected and the conditions progression. By looking at all the genes expressed in those specific cells, they will build a model that shows how genetic factors affect pathways that cause Parkinson’s. The aim is to then modify these gene
A section of the Colorado Riverfront Trail will be closed to allow the city of Grand Junction and its contractor to make improvements.
The project and closure will impact the areas of Hale Avenue within the Riverside Neighborhood, and South Seventh Street, on the east side of the Fifth Street/Highway 50 overpass. The closure will begin on Monday and remain closed for approximately one week but could open on Jan. 15.
The primary reason for this temporary closure will be for the installation of new utilities, requiring bore holes underneath theRiverfront Trail in several locations. These new utility lines will service the new Riverfront at Dos Rios development that is currently under construction.

GREENSBURG Five new directional and free parking signs have been installed around the community of Greensburg that might look a little different than the usual traffic, directional and road signage already there.
Main Street Greensburg, the Decatur County Visitors Commission (Tourism) and the Decatur County Community Foundation all had a hand in designing the elements of the streetscape project.
As a result, sleek black enameled posts with finials and clearly visible arrows pointing to places like the Downtown Square, the tree on the courthouse tower, shopping and dining, even where to find free parking, now dot Greensburg’s growing landscape.
